"The Mourners" at Manhattan Repertory Theatre

Last year Pamela Robbins was a finalist in the Samuel French Off Off Broadway Short Play Festival for her play, "When Rodney met the Vikings." Samuel French is a major publisher and representative of plays. And their Off Off Broadway Short Play Festival is the oldest continual festival of its kind in Manhattan.
Still, a grand niece who recalls her kindly attends, along with several other people including a nosy next door neighbor, her home attendant, a representative of her lawyer, and a stand-in minister. The fun begins when they all become trapped in the memorial room during a seeming power outage. Is it the recently deceased having one last joke at the expense of The Mourners?
Whether it is or not, it's a good opportunity for laughter as we learn more about the recently deceased and The Mourners themselves. Ms. Robbins strikes a wonderful balance between darkness and irreverence.
If you're in New York City during July 29, 30, and 31, get yourselves over to the Manhattan Repertory Theatre at 303 W. 42nd Street at 8th Avenue. The theatre is on the third floor. You can reserve tickets by calling 646-329-6588. They're $20.
Also, check out the Artistic Director's podcast interview with Ms. Robbins. She can describe the play much better than I can. And she gives some insight as to her inspiration for writing the play.
I don't have too much experience with podcasts, but when I clicked the link, iTunes took over. I've evidently given iTunes permission to rule over podcasts on my computer. It may be different for your system, depending on how you've set things up. But since the podcast is free, you should be able to access it at iTunes whether you have an account there are not.
Update---My friend Rosalie Harmon pointed out that this podcast is also on YouTube, which may be easier for some folks to face. Just click here. And it should start right up. Thanks, Rosalie!
I urge you to attend!

I'd love to see this, but alas I live in California. It sounds like a great fun play.
Have a terrific day. :)
Thanks, Sandee! It is a fun play. My husband and I are going to be working tech for it. I'm running lights and he's moving furniture. I'm hoping the lights aren't hard to operate. Keep your fingers crossed. LOL
Thanks for stopping by Mary Anne!
I WISH I could be in NY City the end of the month! That is on my wish list for someday. I'd really like to visit!
Take care,
Darla
Darla, thanks for dropping by too! I hope you get to visit some day. New Yorkers tend to take the city for granted. Me too.
Wish I was in NY!!
Thanks for the visit ~~
We are going to try for a trip in November though!!
Laura, thank you for the visit too! It should be nice in NYC in November. It hasn't been as cold the last few years. And all the stores and everything should be prepped for the holidays. It's a nice time.
AHH... if only I lived closer to New York! I would love to see all these great things!!
Hey, Jennifer! Shows like these in NYC are great because they're not only good, they're cheapter than Broadway. Broadway is something you can only do once in a very great while nowadays.
Sounds interesting, and I also wish to attend. I'll check out the YouTube link since I have no ideas on how to work Podcast or iTune. I'm way behind time!
Thanks for leaving a comment on my blog. I follow you here, and love your flower photos!
Thanks, Icy BC! I hope you can come! I'm working the lights so I'll be around at all the performances. The author will be there too in the house, so say hi to her and ask her how to find me.
I'm not all that up on techie stuff either. I'm an old fan of iTunes, but I just use it for music. I know next to nothing about podcasting, though I'm trying to learn.
I'm glad you like my flower pictures! I seem to take them constantly. LOL
Well, if Manhattan wasn't so far away, I'd definitely attend! Sounds like a great premise.
K.M., it is a great premise. And it's well done too. I'm glad to see Pam get her due as both a writer and a director.
I would love to see you! I was so blessed to visit New york when I was 26 years old. Sadly my sister and dad are not arty and I was voted out of a New York show, boo, hoo! I was gutted. All that way and just to go shopping!
If I ever return I will certainly come and see you!
Thank you so much for your beautiful messages, lovely to hear from you!
Julie-ann, sorry to hear about the New York show. I know really well what it's like to get turned down. All you can do is keep on keeping on. I'm glad that you have.
The play sounds wonderful. I listened to the interview with the writer on YouTube and enjoyed that too.
Some day I would love to visit New York with a play as the draw. It may take some doing to convince my husband to make the trip but I think he'd do it.
Shaddy, I'm glad you liked it! We're not much for traveling either. I hate flying and my husband is a workaholic who can't bear to leave his business. It makes it hard to do any serious traveling.
Interesting blog with good info and photos.
Astro-nuts, thank you so much for the kind words! They mean a lot coming from someone who has a site devoted to astronomy photos. Your photography is great!
